- Keep SE Ranking if you need daily results-page positions for competitors, local or ZIP-level SERP snapshots, and white-label client reporting in one subscription (2,000 keywords daily on Core as of November 2026).
- Pick Ahrefs when backlink and competitor research matter more than daily rank checks; Lite lists 750 keywords weekly from $129 a month (read 2 November 2026).
- Pick Semrush for the widest marketing toolkit; its SEO plan is $139 a month with 500 keywords tracked daily and 5 websites (read 2 November 2026).
- Pick Mangools for a smaller bundle (KWFinder plus SERPWatcher) from $61 a month, with 200 keywords weekly until Agency (1 November 2026).
- Pick MrKeyword (our product) when you mainly report on verified sites: 25 keywords free, then from $10 a month, using Google's and Bing's own average positions, not live SERP scrapes.
Disclosure: MrKeyword publishes this comparison and appears in it. Every competitor price and limit below comes from the vendor's own pricing page on the date shown in Sources (SE Ranking 1 November 2026, Ahrefs 2 November 2026, Semrush 2 November 2026, Mangools 1 November 2026). We re-check those pages monthly through our pricing dataset, but vendors change plans without notice, so confirm on their sites before you buy.
The best SE Ranking alternative depends on what you actually open each week: competitor SERP snapshots, your own site's trends, site audits, or all three. This page is for replacing the full suite. For plan-by-plan costs and add-ons, see SE Ranking pricing; for rank-tracker-only moves, see rank tracker alternatives; for head-to-head reviews, read SE Ranking vs Ahrefs and SE Ranking vs Semrush.
Which SE Ranking alternative fits your need?
Match the tool to the reports you send, not the longest feature list. Start with the job you paid SE Ranking for:
- Daily competitor and local SERP positions: stay on a SERP-based suite. SE Ranking itself, Semrush or Ahrefs still fit; MrKeyword does not scrape results pages.
- Backlink and gap research at depth: Ahrefs is the usual step up from SE Ranking; Semrush is the broader marketing stack.
- Keyword research plus light rank tracking on a budget: Mangools bundles KWFinder and SERPWatcher from $61 a month (1 November 2026).
- Client reporting on sites you verify, Google and Bing trends, audits on your own crawl budget: MrKeyword, which we make, reads first-party Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools averages and adds its own audits and keyword volumes.

Own-site reporting versus competitor research
SE Ranking mixes both: live SERP checks for any domain, plus projects for your clients. The alternatives split cleanly.
First-party averages (MrKeyword): for sites you verify, MrKeyword stores a daily copy of Google's average position from Search Console and Bing's average impression position from Bing Webmaster Tools. Those numbers reflect real searches across the country and device Google or Bing aggregated, with the usual 2 to 3 day delay on Google, not a snapshot of one city or ZIP code at one moment. Read how that differs from a rank tracker in our Search Console average position guide and on Bing rank tracking (measured Bing averages, kept separate from Google).
Live SERP databases (Ahrefs, Semrush, Mangools, and SE Ranking itself): these tools check the results page for keywords you choose, including competitors, local packs, and SERP features. That is what you pay SE Ranking for when competitor columns and city-level ranks drive decisions. None of that is replaced by Search Console data alone.
Many teams keep one SERP tool for competitive keywords and use MrKeyword alongside it for the full picture of their own sites, often for less than one large suite.
Choosing by site count, tracked keywords and audit needs
List the sites, keywords and audit pages you will actually use this quarter before you switch. SE Ranking Core already includes 10 projects and 2,000 keywords tracked daily; Growth raises that to 5,000 keywords and 30 projects (1 November 2026). Compare your list to the entry plans above.
Site and project counts
Agencies with more than 3 client sites on first-party reporting may still fit MrKeyword's Agency plan (10 websites, $49 a month) if every site is verified in Search Console or Bing. Semrush's SEO plan lists 5 websites; Ahrefs Lite lists 5 unverified, unlimited verified. Mangools allows unlimited domains on every plan but caps keyword lookups and tracked keywords instead.
Tracked keywords
If you track thousands of keywords daily for many domains, SE Ranking's 2,000-keyword Core minimum is often cheaper per keyword than Semrush's 500 on the SEO plan or Ahrefs Lite's 750 weekly. If you track hundreds of keywords on your own sites, MrKeyword Starter (500 keywords) or Growth (1,500 keywords) may cover you at a fraction of the cost, with the trade-off that positions are averages, not city-level SERP snapshots.
Audits
SE Ranking's pricing page lists large monthly audit allowances on Core and Growth (see SE Ranking pricing). Ahrefs Lite includes 100,000 a month crawl credits; Semrush bundles Site Audit in its SEO plans. Mangools' bundle focuses on KWFinder and SERPWatcher; its SiteProfiler analyzes pages but is not the same as a full-site crawler. MrKeyword runs its own crawler with 100 pages a month on Free and 2,000 on Starter; try a single URL on the free site audit tool with no account, or see full limits on pricing.
Who should keep SE Ranking?
Stay on SE Ranking when live SERP data, local granularity, or white-label delivery is non-negotiable and you use more than rank tracking alone. Concrete cases:
- You report competitor rankings, share of voice, or SERP features (maps, snippets, AI Overviews) from SE Ranking's rank tracker every week.
- You need city, region or ZIP-level positions on desktop and mobile separately, which first-party Search Console averages do not provide.
- You rely on SE Ranking's Agency Pack for white-label reports, client seats or the lead generator, and rebilling that stack is harder on another tool.
- Your workflow already combines keyword research, backlinks, audits and daily rank checks in one login, and migrating all four would cost more time than money saved.
If none of those apply and your SE Ranking bill is mostly your own domains, test a Search Console-based tracker before renewal. Our rank tracker alternatives page walks through that smaller switch.
Practical checklist for switching off SE Ranking
-
Export projects, keywords and history
Download keyword lists with tags, target URLs, locations and devices, plus ranking history and audit exports SE Ranking allows. Do this before cancellation, not after.
-
Map each SE Ranking module to a replacement
Rank tracking, keyword research, backlinks and audits may land on different tools. Price the combination, not just the rank tracker line item.
-
Run overlap for two to four weeks
Keep SE Ranking until a prepaid period ends while the new stack runs in parallel. Compare trend direction, not exact numbers, when one tool uses SERP checks and another uses Search Console averages.
-
Reconnect data sources
For MrKeyword, verify Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, import Google's 16-month history, and add tracked keywords. For Ahrefs or Semrush, recreate projects and tracked-keyword lists from your export.
-
Update client language before the first new report
Explain any change from live local ranks to national averages, or from SE Ranking's labels to first-party metrics, so a different figure is not read as a ranking drop.
Try first-party tracking before you cancelConnect Search Console and Bing, track 25 keywords free, and compare trends with SE Ranking for a few weeks.
Start free rank trackingWhere MrKeyword fits as an SE Ranking alternative
MrKeyword replaces the part of SE Ranking you use for your own sites' visibility, not the competitor SERP engine. It charges less because it never scrapes Google or Bing results pages.
- Google: daily copy of Search Console average position, clicks and impressions for tracked keywords on verified sites.
- Bing: daily copy of Bing Webmaster Tools average impression position on a separate engine tab (Bing rank tracking).
- Not the same as SERP snapshots: no ZIP-level rank, no live refresh on demand, and no competitor measured ranks (competitor views are predictions, labelled Predicted).
- Plans: Free (25 keywords), Starter $10/mo (500 keywords), Growth $19/mo (3 sites), Agency $49/mo (10 sites). Details on pricing.
- No web-scale keyword index. It cannot list every keyword a competitor ranks for. Its search volumes come from Google Keyword Planner through the official Google Ads API, for the keywords you research.
- Competitor positions are predicted, not measured. The Competitors tab in rank tracking estimates where rival domains rank from MrKeyword's own index and labels every figure Predicted.
- No live SERP checks. It never scrapes Google. Your positions are Google's own average positions from Search Console (and Bing Webmaster Tools), for sites you verify, with Google's usual 2 to 3 day delay.
- A smaller link index. Backlinks and Link Authority come from MrKeyword's web graph, which is smaller than the link indexes the big suites run.
- No local pack, map or ads tracking, and no social media or PPC toolkits.

Questions and answers
SE Ranking alternatives questions
What is the best alternative to SE Ranking?
It depends on the job. Keep SE Ranking for daily competitor and local SERP tracking. Choose Ahrefs Lite ($129/mo, read 2 November 2026) for backlink-led research, Semrush SEO ($139/mo, read 2 November 2026) for the broadest toolkit, Mangools Basic ($61/mo, read 1 November 2026) for a smaller bundle, or MrKeyword for your own sites on Search Console and Bing averages from free or $10/mo.
Is MrKeyword a full replacement for SE Ranking?
No. MrKeyword does not check live search results or track competitors' measured ranks. It fits when you mainly report on verified sites using Google's and Bing's own average positions, with audits and keyword research on a smaller budget.
How do MrKeyword's rankings differ from SE Ranking's?
SE Ranking checks the live results page for keywords and locations you set, including competitors. MrKeyword stores first-party average positions from Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools for sites you verify. Those averages cover real searches Google and Bing aggregated; they are not snapshots of one city or ZIP at one instant, and they carry Google's usual 2 to 3 day delay.
Who should not switch away from SE Ranking?
Teams that depend on white-label client reporting, daily local SERP positions, competitor share-of-voice, or SE Ranking's bundled research and audit workflow in one login should stay unless they accept rebuilding that stack across multiple tools.
