What you get

Who links to a website, and what changed.

A backlink is a link from another website to yours. Search engines read links as votes, so the number of different websites linking to you (your referring domains) and how that number moves are two of the clearest signals of a site's strength.

Most free checkers resell a paid third-party index. MrKeyword shows what it has seen itself: links found while crawling websites, plus Common Crawl's open web graph, a free public crawl of billions of pages. Each referring domain is labelled with where it was found, so the number is never a black box.

Questions

About the backlink checker.

Where do the backlinks come from?

Two sources, both shown on every result: links MrKeyword's own crawler has seen while auditing websites, and Common Crawl's open web graph, a free public crawl of billions of pages that records which domains link to which. Nothing is bought from a third-party backlink database.

Is this every backlink on the web?

No tool sees every link. MrKeyword shows what it has actually seen and labels the source of each referring domain, so you know how the number was made.

What does new and lost mean?

Common Crawl publishes a new web graph every few months. A domain is new when it links to the website in the latest release but didn't before, and lost when it linked before but no longer does.

Is it free?

Yes. The first five referring domains show right here without an account. A free account shows the full list, anchor texts and individual links, with 10 checks a day; paid plans include 200.
