Similarweb vs Semrush: competitor traffic, prices and which one to pick

Similarweb is built around market and traffic intelligence from a clickstream panel; Semrush is an SEO and PPC suite where competitor traffic is one job among many. This page compares every plan's price, read on each vendor's own pricing page (checked November 2026), how each estimates traffic (both are models, not measured analytics), keyword and SEO features, free options, and when you need both. We make MrKeyword, a smaller tool, so read our section with that in mind.

A dashboard of traffic charts for competitor research
The short version
  • Different products. Similarweb sells market and traffic intelligence from a panel; Semrush sells an SEO and PPC suite, with competitor traffic as the Traffic & Market toolkit or inside Domain Overview.
  • Prices (November 2026, monthly billing): Similarweb from $199 (Competitive Intelligence) to $649 (Competitive Intel, SEO & AEO & Ads); Semrush SEO plans from $139 to $299, Advanced custom, plus $289 a month for Traffic & Market.
  • Traffic estimates: Similarweb scales a clickstream panel to total visits and channels; Semrush's Traffic Analytics uses clickstream too, while its core SEO numbers come from keyword and ranking models. Both say their figures are estimates and will not match a site's own analytics.
  • Free use: Similarweb shows free high-level sample data on its site; Semrush Free gives 10 reports a day on any domain with no card.
  • For a one-off organic check, MrKeyword's free website traffic checker estimates monthly organic clicks with a ±3x range and no account.

Disclosure: MrKeyword publishes this page and makes a free traffic estimate linked below. Every price comes from the vendor's own pricing page, and the date we read it is printed next to it. Traffic figures from either tool are estimates, not measured analytics. Where a page did not state something, we say so rather than guess.

Quick verdict

  • Pick Similarweb when the job is market sizing, total visits across channels, audience overlap, app data or demographics: its Web Intelligence packages start at $199 a month and are built around the panel.
  • Pick Semrush when the job is SEO and PPC day to day: keyword research, daily rank tracking (daily), site audit and advertising research share one login from $139 a month on the SEO plan.
  • Add Semrush Traffic & Market ($289 a month, billed annually) when you want Semrush's clickstream competitor traffic next to that SEO workflow; it is not included in the SEO plan price.
  • Similarweb's Competitive Intel & SEO & AEO package ($399 a month) adds SEO keyword research, rank tracker, site audit and backlinks on top of the same panel, so one vendor can cover both jobs if you do not already pay for Semrush.
  • You may need both only when one team owns market research in Similarweb and another lives in Semrush for client SEO; most small teams pick one primary suite plus Search Console for their own measured data.

Similarweb vs Semrush pricing: every plan

Similarweb's self-service packages run from $199 to $649 a month; Semrush's SEO plans run from $139 to $299 a month with Advanced priced on request. Similarweb advertises lower per-month prices on annual billing ($125 to $542 a month); Semrush prints yearly prices too (up to 17% off, paid upfront for the year). Competitor traffic in Semrush is the separate Traffic & Market toolkit at $289 a month. Our Similarweb pricing and Semrush pricing guides cover Business packages, add-ons and trials.

How Similarweb and Semrush estimate traffic

Neither tool can see a competitor's real analytics, so both publish estimates built from models, and both say their numbers will not match Google Analytics or Search Console. The methods differ, which is why the same site gets different figures.

  • Similarweb describes its figures as built from a large panel of users, apps and extensions, combined with direct measurement from sites that share data with it and other partners, then scaled to the wider internet through machine learning. Its help content positions the product as market and traffic intelligence: total visits, channel mix, geography, demographics and, on higher packages, app usage. Every number is an estimate.
  • Semrush Traffic & Market (the clickstream competitor-traffic product) approximates visits from clickstream behaviour, as its Traffic Analytics article states, and it is not interchangeable with Google Analytics. Domain Overview and other SEO reports use Semrush's keyword, ranking and advertising databases instead, with their own modelling.

So Similarweb is panel-first for total traffic and channels; Semrush splits clickstream traffic (Traffic & Market) from keyword-based SEO metrics in the core suite. Compare competitors inside one tool on one day rather than treating either figure as ground truth. Our guide to checking website traffic walks through the methods and why they disagree.

Keyword research and SEO features

Semrush is the fuller SEO and PPC suite on day one; Similarweb adds SEO tooling only from its second self-service package upward.

  • Similarweb Competitive Intelligence: traffic, engagement, demographics, marketing channels and competitor alerts, with 3 months of history and 100 data credits a month. No keyword research, rank tracker or site audit on this tier.
  • Similarweb Competitive Intel & SEO & AEO: adds SEO Intelligence (organic overview, keyword research, rank tracker, site audit and backlinks) and AEO Intelligence (150 tracked prompts), with 6 months of history. Its pricing page does not state a tracked-keyword limit for the rank tracker.
  • Semrush SEO plans: keyword, competitor, content and advertising research in one subscription, with 500 keywords tracked daily on the SEO plan, 1,500 on Pro+ and 5,000+ on Advanced. The Free plan covers keyword and competitor research within 10 reports a day.

Free options

Similarweb offers sample data, not a free product plan; Semrush offers a permanent Free plan with small daily limits.

  • Similarweb: its pricing page lists no free plan, but similarweb.com shows free high-level sample data for domains, which its FAQ describes as a limited feature set without deeper drill-downs. Every self-service package has a try-for-free button; the pricing page does not state how long the trial lasts.
  • Semrush Free: no card, 1 demo project and 10 reports a day across its main tools, 10 tracked keywords and a 100-page Site Audit a month. Paid plans also have a 7-day free trial. See is Semrush free?

Check a competitor's traffic for free

Before you pay either vendor, decide whether a rough organic size is enough. MrKeyword's website traffic checker estimates monthly organic clicks for up to five domains at a time, shows the low-to-high range and names the model, with no sign-up. It does not show total visits, channel mix or audiences, which is what Similarweb's panel and Semrush's Traffic & Market sell. Read our how to check website traffic guide for when to trust an estimate and when to buy panel data.

Where MrKeyword fits

MrKeyword, which we make, is for measured data on sites you own and honest organic estimates for any domain, not a replacement for Similarweb's panel or Semrush's suite. It reads Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools for your own sites and keeps a daily history.

  • Plans: Free covers 1 website, 25 tracked keywords and 100 audit pages a month. Starter is $10 a month, Growth $19 and Agency $49. See pricing.
  • What it does not do: it does not model total visits across channels, sell app or audience data, or research competitors' keywords and ads the way Semrush does. Its traffic checker gives organic search clicks only, with a ±3x band, not Similarweb's or Semrush's panel figures.

Questions and answers

Similarweb vs Semrush questions

How accurate is Similarweb?

Similarweb publishes estimates, not measured analytics. Its own content explains that differences from Google Analytics are expected because it models traffic from a panel and partners rather than reading a site's tags. Treat every figure as directional, compare sites within Similarweb on the same day, and calibrate against your own Search Console data when you can.

Is Similarweb free?

Similarweb's pricing page lists no free plan. Its website shows free high-level sample data for domains, which its FAQ describes as a limited sample without full drill-downs. Paid self-service packages start at $199 a month on monthly billing ($125 a month billed yearly), and each has a try-for-free button; the pricing page does not state how long the trial lasts.

Can Semrush show competitor traffic?

Yes, through its Traffic & Market toolkit ($289 a month, billed annually on its pricing page), which uses clickstream-based Traffic Analytics. Domain Overview and other SEO reports also show traffic-style metrics built from Semrush's keyword databases, which are separate models. Neither replaces a site's own analytics.

Which is better for SEO?

Semrush is the stronger dedicated SEO and PPC suite: daily rank tracking from $139 a month, keyword and competitor research on every paid plan, and a Free plan with 10 reports a day. Similarweb adds SEO tooling only from Competitive Intel & SEO & AEO at $399 a month upward. Pick Similarweb for SEO only if you already want its panel data in the same login.

Why do Similarweb and Semrush show different traffic?

They start from different data and answer slightly different questions. Similarweb scales a clickstream panel to total visits and channels; Semrush's Traffic Analytics also uses clickstream, while its core SEO metrics come from keyword rankings and volumes. Both are estimates, both say they will not match Google Analytics, and neither can see the competitor's real numbers.
