About MrKeyword

What is MrKeyword? An SEO tool built on your own search data

MrKeyword is an SEO workspace that turns your own Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools data, plus its own crawler, into rank tracking, site audits, keyword research and reports, with an MCP server so AI assistants can read it. It has a Free plan, and paid plans cost $10, $19 or $49 a month. This page sets out what it does, what it costs, where every number comes from, and where it is the wrong choice.

The MrKeyword dashboard showing search clicks, positions and site health for one website
The short version
  • MrKeyword is an SEO workspace built on your own Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools data and its own crawler. It does not resell a third-party SEO index and does not scrape Google.
  • Pricing: Free (1 website, no expiry), Starter $10 a month (1 website), Growth $19 (3 websites), Agency $49 (10 websites). Yearly billing gives 2 months free; Lifetime is $250 once, for the first 500 buyers.
  • Every metric carries a label: Measured, Derived, Estimated, Predicted or Not available, plus its source and an as-of date.
  • AI assistants such as Claude Code and Cursor can read it through an MCP server with 25 tools. Developers can buy its data through a separate, metered Data API.
  • It is a weak fit if you need live SERP rank checks, a web-scale backlink index or measured competitor traffic. It does not offer those.

Disclosure: MrKeyword publishes this page about itself. To keep it useful, every price and limit below is copied from the product's own plan definitions, we do not quote ratings or customer numbers, and there is a full section on what the product does not do.

What is MrKeyword?

MrKeyword is an SEO software workspace that reads the search data you already own, from Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, adds its own site crawler, and turns the result into rank tracking, keyword research, technical audits and client-ready reports. It runs in the browser at app.mrkeyword.io, and AI assistants can operate it through the Model Context Protocol.

The short version of its design: every number names where it came from. A position is the average position Google or Bing reported for your property. A crawl finding is something MrKeyword's crawler saw on your pages. Anything MrKeyword had to model, such as keyword difficulty or another site's traffic, is labelled as an estimate or a prediction. Where there is no evidence, the screen says "Not available" instead of showing zero.

Who makes MrKeyword and what is it for?

MrKeyword is an independent SEO software product sold at mrkeyword.io, built for people who have to explain their search numbers: in-house marketers, agencies and freelancers, and small teams without an SEO specialist. It is not a reseller of another company's SEO database, and it is not affiliated with Google, Microsoft or the AI companies whose assistants it monitors.

The job it is built for is the weekly loop most site owners already run by hand: open Search Console, see what moved, work out why, fix the pages that matter, and report it. MrKeyword stores its own copy of your daily Search Console rows, so history stays available after Google's reporting window rolls on, and it puts the fixes in priority order instead of leaving you with a spreadsheet export.

What does MrKeyword do? Every feature group in one line

MrKeyword covers four core jobs (rank tracking, keyword research, site audits and reports), with AI features, monitoring and a set of free tools around them. One line each:

How much does MrKeyword cost?

MrKeyword has a Free plan that does not expire, then Starter at $10 a month for 1 website, Growth at $19 a month for 3 websites and Agency at $49 a month for 10 websites; each paid plan is also sold yearly at ten times the monthly price. Every paid plan includes the AI features. There is no trial of the paid plans, because the Free plan takes its place.

Source: MrKeyword's plan definitions, 30 October 2026. AI visibility questions are one weekly pool shared by all websites in the workspace. White-label reports are on Agency only.

Three details that change the maths:

  • Lifetime is a single $250 payment for 3 websites, limited to the first 500 buyers. Its AI allowances are smaller than Growth's because AI is the one cost that recurs every month.
  • Credit packs cost $5 each and work on any plan, including Free: 50 AI page audits, 5,000 crawl pages, or 25 extra weekly AI visibility questions. Packs expire 12 months after purchase and are used after the monthly allowance.
  • Prices are in US dollars. The pricing page has every limit side by side.

A worked example: a freelancer with four client sites would outgrow Growth (3 websites) and land on Agency at $49 a month, or $490 a year. A single shop owner who wants AI page audits pays $10 a month on Starter; one who only wants to see positions and run a small audit can stay on Free.

Is MrKeyword free?

Yes, MrKeyword has a Free plan with no time limit and no credit card: 1 website, 25 tracked keywords, 100 crawl pages and 10 keyword lookups a month, and 3 AI visibility questions a week. AI page audits and briefs need a paid plan or a $5 pack of 50 AI page audits.

Free is enough to connect Search Console, see your real average positions and audit a small site. It is not enough to audit a site with hundreds of pages every month or to run a client portfolio. Several stand-alone free SEO tools also work without an account.

Where does MrKeyword's data come from?

MrKeyword's numbers come from four places: your Google Search Console properties, your Bing Webmaster Tools sites, official keyword data from Google Ads Keyword Planner and Bing, and MrKeyword's own crawler and link index. It does not buy a third-party SEO index and re-badge it, and it does not scrape Google results.

  1. Google Search Console

Clicks, impressions, CTR and average position for the properties you connect, requested with the read-only webmasters.readonly scope. Google's Search Console API is the official programmatic route to these reports.

  2. Bing Webmaster Tools

Query and page performance, keyword figures and crawl statistics for your verified Bing sites, using a read scope. Microsoft documents OAuth 2.0 access to the Bing Webmaster API as the recommended method. Bing positions are kept separate from Google's, and where Bing omits a dimension such as country or device, MrKeyword leaves it blank.

  3. Keyword Planner and Bing keyword data

Monthly search demand and related ideas. Google's and Bing's figures are shown side by side and never merged into one number.

  4. MrKeyword's own crawler and index

Site audits, page evidence, link discovery and the Link Authority score. The crawler obeys robots.txt and makes no more than two requests per second per site. For its web graph and public page index MrKeyword also uses Common Crawl, a free, open repository of web crawl data.

What do MrKeyword's honesty labels mean?

Every number in MrKeyword carries one of five labels (Measured, Derived, Estimated, Predicted or Not available) together with its source, a confidence level and an as-of date. The rule is enforced in code: a metric that cannot say where it came from is rejected before it reaches the screen.

The five labels, with an example of each

LabelMeaningExample
MeasuredReported by Google or Bing, or observed directly by the crawlerYour page's average position in Search Console
DerivedCalculated from measured numbers with a stated formulaThe site audit health score: 100 minus weighted deductions
EstimatedModelled, with a range or confidenceKeyword difficulty; another website's monthly organic clicks
PredictedA model's guess where no measurement existsThe keywords a competitor probably ranks for
Not availableNo evidence, so no numberA keyword with no verified demand signal (shown as "Not available", not 0)
Source: MrKeyword's About page and data status notes.

A worked example: open a competitor in Domain Overview and you will see its links as Measured (links MrKeyword found), its traffic as Estimated with a low-to-high range, and its ranking keywords as Predicted. None of it is presented as the competitor's real Search Console data, because nobody outside that website has it.

How do the MCP server and the Data API work?

The MCP server lets an AI assistant such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor read your MrKeyword workspace; the Data API is a separate, metered REST API that sells MrKeyword's own SEO data to developers. The two use different keys and are billed separately.

The Model Context Protocol is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems. MrKeyword serves it at https://app.mrkeyword.io/mcp: JSON-RPC 2.0 over a single POST, with an mk_ bearer token scoped to one workspace. It exposes 25 tools (20 reads such as get_rankings, get_site_summary and get_opportunity_inbox, and 5 actions that need a token created with the actions scope) and 4 prompts, at 120 calls a minute per token. Setup steps for each client are on the developer page and in our Claude SEO MCP guide.

The Data API lives at https://app.mrkeyword.io/api/v1 and uses mkd_ keys. Every call costs credits: a domain overview costs 3, a domain's Link Authority 1, keyword metrics 1 per keyword. Its plans are separate from the app plans:

Data API plans

PlanPriceCredits a monthRate limit
DeveloperFree, no card50060 a minute
API Starter$29 a month20,000300 a minute
API Growth$99 a month100,000600 a minute
API Scale$299 a month400,0001,500 a minute
Credit pack$20 once10,000, valid 12 months—
Source: MrKeyword's Data API reference. A call that fails on MrKeyword's side (HTTP 500) is not charged.

API responses keep the same honesty labels, and a domain MrKeyword has not seen answers with nulls and a reason rather than an invented figure.

Who is MrKeyword a good fit for?

MrKeyword suits site owners, in-house marketers, freelancers and small agencies who already have Search Console access and want tracking, audits and reports on that data at a low monthly price. It suits people who would rather see "Not available" than a confident guess.

  • One business website: Starter at $10 a month covers 1 site with 500 tracked keywords and AI page audits.
  • Agencies and freelancers: Agency covers 10 client websites and 10 seats for $49 a month, with white-label reports and scheduled delivery.
  • Teams that work in an AI assistant: the MCP server means Claude or Cursor can pull rankings, audits and opportunities directly; see rank tracking with Claude.
  • Builders: the Data API sells domain authority, traffic estimates, backlinks and keyword metrics from MrKeyword's own index, with a free 500-credit tier to test.

Who should pick something else?

If your work depends on live checks of the results page, a web-scale backlink index, or deep research on sites you do not own, a larger suite such as Semrush or Ahrefs is the better tool. MrKeyword was built around your own properties, and its competitor data is estimated or predicted, not measured.

  • You need exact daily positions from a live search. MrKeyword reports Google's and Bing's average positions, which suit trend work but are not the same as checking a results page.
  • You do link-building research at scale. Its backlink data is the links MrKeyword has discovered, not a complete index of the web.
  • You cannot connect Search Console. Most of the product's value comes from that connection.
  • You need city-level tracking. Targeting is country-level.

Our comparisons set out these trade-offs in detail: Semrush alternative, Ahrefs alternative and best AI SEO tools.

What MrKeyword does not do

MrKeyword does not scrape Google, does not resell a third-party SEO index, does not measure competitors' rankings or traffic, and does not let AI produce any metric. Specifically:

  • No live SERP scraping. Positions come from Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools only.
  • No complete backlink index. Backlinks and Link Authority reflect the links MrKeyword's crawler and its Common Crawl web graph have seen.
  • No measured competitor traffic. Traffic for sites you do not own is an Estimated figure with a range; competitor keywords and positions are Predicted.
  • No AI-generated numbers. AI explains issues and drafts fixes and briefs. Every figure comes from Google, Bing or MrKeyword's own data.
  • No AI traffic estimates or AI Overviews report. AI visibility records what four assistants answered to your questions; it does not estimate visits from them.
  • No guarantees. Nothing in the product can make Google or an AI assistant rank or cite a page.
