Moz alternatives: how Moz Pro compares with five other SEO tools

People look for Moz alternatives for different reasons: a cheaper alternative to Moz Pro, a bigger suite, or a free way to check domain authority. This page sets out what Moz Pro cost on 29 October 2026, compares it fairly with MrKeyword, Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and Ubersuggest, and says plainly where Moz is still the stronger choice. We make MrKeyword, so read our section with that in mind.

An SEO dashboard comparing metrics across several charts
The short version
  • Moz Pro on 29 October 2026 listed Standard at $99 a month ($79 billed yearly), Medium at $179 and Large at $299, plus an entry-level plan at $49 a month for one website.
  • Moz is stronger where its own data is the product: Domain Authority, which it invented, a link index its Link Explorer page puts at 45.5 trillion links, and Keyword Explorer.
  • You can check Moz DA free: a free Moz Community account gives 10 Link Explorer queries a month, and MozBar shows DA as you browse.
  • Semrush (from $139 a month), Ahrefs (Lite from $129) and SE Ranking (Core from $129) are full suites; Ubersuggest listed plans from US$29 to US$99 a month.
  • MrKeyword (our product) is the cheaper alternative to Moz for work on your own sites: from free, then $10 a month, built on your Search Console and Bing data. It has no Moz DA and a smaller link index.

Disclosure: MrKeyword publishes this page and is one of the Moz alternatives compared. Every competitor price links to the official page we read it from on 29 October 2026. Where a page did not state something clearly, we say so rather than guess.

How much does Moz Pro cost?

Moz Pro's pricing page listed three main plans on 29 October 2026, Standard at $99, Medium at $179 and Large at $299 a month, with 20% off when paid yearly, plus an entry-level plan at $49 a month for a single website. Before comparing Moz alternatives, it helps to know what each Moz plan includes, because the limits differ more than the prices.

From moz.com/products/pro/pricing, checked 29 October 2026, in US dollars. The page describes the entry-level plan only as “available for $49/month” and “designed specifically for individuals managing a single website”; its limits are not listed beside the other plans.

The same page lists backlink queries (5,000, 20,000 and 70,000 a month across the three main plans), AI visibility prompt tracking on every plan, and a free trial. Its FAQ adds that a free Moz Community account gives limited access to MozBar, Keyword Explorer and Link Explorer.

Is there a free Moz domain authority checker?

Yes. Moz Link Explorer shows Domain Authority free with a Moz Community account, which Moz says includes 10 queries a month, and the free MozBar extension shows DA for the page you are on. Many people searching for a Moz alternative only want that one number, so check whether the free route already covers you before paying for anything.

  • Moz Link Explorer: enter a URL, create a free account and verify your email. Moz lists Domain Authority, Page Authority, Spam Score, inbound links and linking domains among the free data.
  • MozBar: Moz's browser toolbar, handy for checking the sites that rank for a query.
  • MrKeyword's domain authority checker: checks up to five domains with no sign-up (25 at a time with a free account) and shows MrKeyword Link Authority, our own 0–100 score with its source and a confidence level. It is not Moz DA, and the numbers will differ.

If a client contract or report names Moz DA specifically, use Moz's own tools: no other vendor can show the real number. For how DA, Ahrefs DR and Semrush Authority Score differ, read what is domain authority.

Where Moz is stronger than its alternatives

Moz is strongest where its own data is the product: Domain Authority, its link index and Keyword Explorer. Before you switch, be honest about whether you rely on any of these.

  • Domain Authority is Moz's metric. Moz created it, and DA is still the score many clients, link sellers and agencies quote. Only Moz shows it.
  • A large link index. Moz's Link Explorer page lists 45.5 trillion links, 8.7 trillion URLs and 1 billion domains. Even the Standard plan includes 5,000 backlink queries a month.
  • Keyword Explorer. Moz describes a keyword index of over 1.25 billion suggestions, with SERP analysis and a view of where a site already ranks.
  • Learning material. Moz has published SEO education for years, including its beginner's guide and Whiteboard Friday videos, which its pricing page highlights alongside 24-hour online support.

Moz alternatives compared at a glance

The five Moz alternatives below split into two groups: full suites with their own web-wide data (Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Ubersuggest) and a cheaper tool built on your own search data (MrKeyword).

Prices checked 29 October 2026 on each official page, monthly billing unless stated, in US dollars. Listed by type, not ranked.

Semrush

Semrush is a large all-in-one suite, and the usual Moz Pro alternative for people who want more competitive research. On 29 October 2026 its pricing page listed an SEO plan at $139 a month (5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily), Starter at $199, Pro+ at $299 (15 websites, 1,500 keywords) and Advanced on request, with annual billing from $117.33 a month on the SEO plan. Its Free plan offers 10 reports a day with no credit card, and paid plans have a 7-day free trial.

Choose it over Moz for wide competitor, keyword and advertising research in one place. Moz is stronger if you need Moz DA itself, and Moz's Standard plan costs less per month.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs is a suite built around its own crawler and backlink index. Its pricing page listed Lite at $129 a month (750 tracked keywords), Standard at $249 (2,000), Advanced at $449 (5,000) and Enterprise at $1,499, saving up to 17% when paid annually. Its free account page also offers a Starter plan at $29 a month. Ahrefs Free, which Ahrefs says is the renamed Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, gives Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics for verified websites, with up to 1,000 backlinks and keywords visible at once and 5,000 crawl credits per project a month.

Choose it over Moz for backlink research and content gap work. Moz is stronger on entry price and if DA is the number you report. See our Ahrefs alternative page for where MrKeyword fits next to it.

SE Ranking

SE Ranking is a suite with generous rank tracking allowances for the price. On 29 October 2026 its pricing page listed Core at $129 a month with 2,000 keywords tracked daily and Growth at $279 with 5,000, with 20% off on annual billing and Enterprise through sales. It offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card.

Choose it over Moz if you track many keywords across client sites. Moz is stronger if your reporting depends on DA and Moz's link data.

Ubersuggest

Ubersuggest, from Neil Patel's company, is the low-cost suite in this list. Its pricing page showed plans in a range of US$29 to US$99 a month, a one-time Lifetime option, and a 7-day free trial; its homepage says a credit card is required for the trial and describes a free plan for light research. The three plans listed 1, 7 and 15 projects, with 125, 150 and 300 tracked keywords per project updated weekly.

Choose it over Moz for basic keyword ideas, an audit and weekly rank tracking at a lower price. Moz is stronger on link data depth and the DA metric.

MrKeyword

MrKeyword is a cheaper alternative to Moz for the weekly work on sites you own: it reads your Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools data, crawls your site, and keeps a daily history. It does not resell any vendor's data.

  • Rank tracking from the average positions Search Console and Bing report for your verified site, over 7 to 365 days, by device and country, with a wrong-page flag. See rank tracking.
  • Keyword research with monthly volumes from the official Google Keyword Planner and Bing APIs, shown separately and labelled with their source (free keyword research tool).
  • Links: MrKeyword Link Authority and a backlink checker built on its own crawl and web graph, with the source on every referring domain.
  • A site audit from its own crawler, and an MCP server so Claude or Cursor can answer questions from the same data.
  • Pricing: Free covers 1 website, 25 tracked keywords and 100 audit pages a month. Starter is $10 a month for 1 website and 500 tracked keywords; Growth $19 for 3 websites and 1,500; Agency $49 for 10 websites and 5,000. Yearly billing is ten times the monthly price. See pricing.

Where Moz is stronger: Moz DA, a far larger link index, keyword research into any site's rankings, and rank tracking for keywords that do not appear in your own Search Console. MrKeyword does none of those.

What is the cheapest alternative to Moz Pro?

For your own site, the cheapest alternative to Moz Pro is free: Google Search Console plus a free tool on top of it; among paid suites in this list, Ubersuggest showed the lowest prices. Which one is enough depends on the job:

  1. If you only need DA

Use Moz's free Link Explorer queries or MozBar. Paying for a different tool will not give you Moz DA.

  2. If you need your own rankings, clicks and audits

Google Search Console is free. MrKeyword's Free plan adds a daily history, tracked keywords and a 100-page audit, and paid plans start at $10 a month.

  3. If you need competitor research on a budget

Ubersuggest's plans start lower than the big suites; Ahrefs' $29 Starter plan is another entry point to check against your needs.

  4. If you need a full suite

Compare Moz Standard ($99) with Ahrefs Lite and SE Ranking Core ($129 each) and Semrush's SEO plan ($139) on the limits you will actually use: tracked keywords, sites and backlink queries.

Which Moz alternative should you choose?

Pick by the question you need answered each week, not by the length of the feature list.

If you need…Tools that fitWhy
Moz Domain Authority itselfMoz Pro, or Moz's free toolsOnly Moz calculates DA

Many teams combine the two kinds: a suite or Moz for link and competitor work, and Search Console data for the weekly view of their own sites. Our Semrush alternative and Ahrefs alternative pages explain that split in more detail.

What MrKeyword does not do

MrKeyword is not a drop-in replacement for Moz Pro if you depend on Moz's own data.

  • It does not show Moz DA, Page Authority or Spam Score. Its Link Authority is its own score and will not match DA.
  • Its link index is smaller than Moz's and covers what its own crawler and web graph have seen.
  • It does not check live search results or track competitors' rankings; positions come from Search Console and Bing for sites you verify.
  • It does not estimate keyword rankings for domains you do not own the way Moz's Keyword Explorer does.
  • It cannot import your Moz history; you connect Search Console and MrKeyword starts its own daily copy.

Questions and answers

Moz alternatives questions

How much does Moz Pro cost?

On 29 October 2026 Moz's pricing page listed Standard at $99 a month ($79 billed yearly), Medium at $179 ($143 yearly) and Large at $299 ($239 yearly), plus an entry-level plan at $49 a month for a single website.

Is there a free Moz domain authority checker?

Yes. Moz Link Explorer shows Domain Authority with a free Moz Community account, which Moz says includes 10 queries a month, and the free MozBar extension shows DA as you browse. MrKeyword's domain authority checker is also free but shows its own Link Authority score, not Moz DA.

What is a cheaper alternative to Moz Pro?

For your own site, Google Search Console is free and MrKeyword starts free, with paid plans from $10 a month. Among suites in this comparison, Ubersuggest showed plans from US$29 a month and Ahrefs lists a $29 Starter plan. Check that the limits fit your work before switching.

Is Semrush or Ahrefs better than Moz?

Neither is better for every job. Semrush is broader for competitive research, Ahrefs is known for backlink research, and Moz is the only source of Domain Authority. Compare them on the limits you actually use.

Can MrKeyword replace Moz Pro?

Only if you do not need Moz DA, a web-wide link index, keyword research on other domains or live rank tracking. MrKeyword covers your own rankings, keyword volumes, audits and reports from first-party data, and can sit alongside Moz.

Does Google use Moz Domain Authority?

No. Moz itself states that Domain Authority is not a Google ranking factor. It is a third-party estimate of link strength, useful for comparing sites within one tool.
