Affordable SEO tools: what you actually get for under $50 a month

Under $50 a month you can get real SEO work done: rank tracking, a site audit and keyword ideas for one to ten sites. On 30 October 2026, the entry plans at or under that price on official pages were Ahrefs Starter ($29), Ubersuggest Individual, SEO PowerSuite Professional (billed yearly), Mangools Basic (billed yearly) and MrKeyword ($10 to $49). The big suites start at $99 to $139. This guide shows what each cheap plan includes, what it leaves out, and how to pick one.

A progress card showing keyword ranking improvements
The short version
  • Entry plans at or under $50 a month on 30 October 2026: Ahrefs Starter $29, Ubersuggest Individual, SEO PowerSuite Professional ($349 a year), Mangools Basic ($37.70 a month billed yearly) and MrKeyword from $10.
  • Above $50 at entry: Semrush ($139), SE Ranking ($129) and Seobility Premium (€59.90). Moz Pro's main plans start at $99, but it also sells a $49 Starter plan for one website.
  • Cheap plans differ most on three numbers: sites or projects, keywords tracked and audit pages. Compare those, not the feature list.
  • Free first: Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools cost nothing, and several vendors have free plans with small limits.
  • MrKeyword (our product): Free 1 site and 25 keywords; Starter $10 for 1 site and 500 keywords; Growth $19 for 3 sites; Agency $49 for 10 sites. It has no full web backlink index.

Disclosure: MrKeyword publishes this guide and is one of the tools in it. Every competitor price and limit links to the official page we read on 30 October 2026. Cheap plans change often, so check the vendor's page before you buy.

What can you get from an SEO tool for under $50 a month?

For under $50 a month you can get rank tracking, a technical site audit and keyword ideas for at least one site, and with some tools for up to ten. What you usually give up is volume (fewer tracked keywords, smaller audits), daily updates, extra users, and the deep competitor and backlink research that the large suites charge $99 to $139 a month for.

That trade is fine for most small businesses. If your weekly questions are "are my rankings moving?" and "is anything broken on my site?", a cheap plan answers them. If your job is studying a competitor's backlinks every day, read our best SEO tools guide, which covers the full suites.

Which SEO tools have an entry plan under $50 a month?

Five tools had a paid entry plan at or under $50 a month on their official pricing pages on 30 October 2026; two of them reach that price only with yearly billing. The table compares what each entry plan includes on the three numbers that matter most.

Two notes on reading it. "Keywords tracked" means very different things: MrKeyword stores the average positions Search Console reports for your own site, while Ubersuggest, Mangools and SEO PowerSuite check search results themselves, which also lets them track a competitor. And yearly-only prices are real savings only if you are sure you will use the tool for the year.

What does each cheap plan include and leave out?

Each cheap plan is strong at one or two jobs and thin at the rest, so match the plan to the job you do most. Here is each one in a paragraph.

  • Ahrefs Starter ($29/month). Ahrefs' announcement says it includes Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit and Rank Tracker, with 200 credits a month spent when you open most reports. It renews monthly only, and you cannot add users or credits. Good for an occasional look at Ahrefs' backlink and keyword data; tight for daily research.
  • SEO PowerSuite Professional ($349 a year). Its pricing page lists unlimited projects and keywords, whole-site crawls and audits, unlimited backlink tracking and 5 competitors per project. It is billed yearly, runs as desktop software, and keeps saving and emailing reports for the Enterprise edition ($599 a year).
  • Ubersuggest Individual. The pricing page shows local currency; we saw CA$39 a month, CA$16 a month billed yearly, or CA$390 once for lifetime access. It includes 1 project, 125 tracked keywords updated weekly, a 1,000-page weekly audit, 150 reports a day and 2,000 backlink rows. Add-ons are $5 a month each.
  • Mangools Basic. The pricing page lists $37.70 a month billed yearly, or $61.00 billed monthly, so it is under $50 only on a yearly plan. It includes 100 keyword research requests a day, 200 tracked keywords on any number of domains (updated weekly), 100,000 backlink rows a month and 20 site analyses a day, but no site audit crawler and no extra seats.
  • MrKeyword Starter, Growth and Agency. Covered in the next section, with every limit.

What do MrKeyword's Free, Starter, Growth and Agency plans include?

MrKeyword has a Free plan and three paid plans at $10, $19 and $49 a month, stepping up by number of websites; yearly billing costs ten months' price. These limits come straight from the product's plan definitions.

Which popular SEO tools cost more than $50 a month?

Semrush, SE Ranking and Seobility's paid plans all start above $50 a month, and Moz Pro's main plans do too, so we left them out of the main table. They are not worse; they are priced for heavier use.

  • Semrush: SEO plan $139 a month, or $117.33 billed yearly (pricing).
  • SE Ranking: Core $129 a month, or $103.20 billed yearly, with 10 projects, 2,000 keywords and 250,000 audit pages (pricing).
  • Moz Pro: Standard $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly. Below its plan table, Moz also offers an entry-level Starter plan at $49 a month for individuals managing a single website (pricing).
  • Seobility: Premium €59.90 a month, or €575.04 a year (pricing). Its free Basic plan is listed above.

If one of these does a job you need every day, it can still be the cheapest choice in hours saved. Our Moz alternatives and Semrush alternative pages compare them in more depth.

How do you pick an SEO tool on a budget?

Start free, write down the one question you cannot answer, then pay for the cheapest plan that answers it, monthly, before you commit to a year. Five steps:

  1. Set up the free baseline

Verify your site in Google Search Console and import it into Bing Webmaster Tools. Use them for two weeks. Many small sites find most of their answers here.

  2. Name the job you are paying for

Write it as a question: "Which keywords dropped this week?" (rank tracking), "What is broken on my site?" (audit), "What should I write next?" (keyword research), "Who links to my competitor?" (backlinks). One question usually points to one tool type.

  3. Count your sites and keywords

Write down how many sites, keywords and pages you have. Then check them against the table above. A 3,000-page site will not fit a 1,000-page audit; three client sites will not fit a 1-project plan.

  4. Check how the data is made

Search Console data is measured for your own site but averaged and delayed. Live SERP checks show a point-in-time position and can cover competitors. Traffic and backlink numbers for other sites are always the vendor's estimates. Pick the type that answers your question.

  5. Pay monthly first, then switch to yearly

Yearly billing saves money only if you keep using the tool. Run a month, confirm the plan fits, then move to yearly. Note that some cheap prices here, such as Mangools Basic and SEO PowerSuite Professional, are only available yearly.

Worked example. A bakery with one 40-page site wants to know whether its "wedding cakes" pages are moving and whether anything is broken. Search Console answers the first question for free; a $10 plan adds a daily history of 500 keywords and a 2,000-page audit, far more than the site needs. A three-person agency with 8 client sites needs per-site tracking and white-label reports: a 10-site plan at $49 a month fits, with a research suite added only if clients pay for link building.

What MrKeyword does not do

MrKeyword is cheap partly because it does not run a web-scale index: it has no full backlink index, no measured competitor rankings and no live rank checks. Specifically:

  • Backlinks are only the links MrKeyword has found by crawling, not the complete web.
  • Competitors have no measured rank; their positions, keywords and traffic are marked Predicted or Not available.
  • Positions are Search Console and Bing averages over a period, arrive with Google's delay, and only cover queries with impressions.
  • Search volume is shown only when there is a measurement; otherwise the app says Not available.
  • Location is country-level; there are no city-level rank claims.

If you need any of those every week, a tool from the table above, or a suite, is the better fit.
